La Damunt Hermitage

This chapel is located at an elevated point in the town of Folgueroles, from which Montseny, the Pyrenees and the Plana de Vic can all be glimpsed. The first documented mention of the site dates from the 13th century. The current temple was built and enlarged in the 16th to 18th centuries. The verses sung in the chapel mention La Damunt as the sacred place that released the Plana de Vic from the howls of the evil spirit and the plague. This spiritual centre of the residents of Folgueroles was one of the most emblematic spots for Verdaguer, who regarded it as the site of his birth as a poet.
